Spiritual Determinants – Keys To Good Fellowship

I have been sharing with you all for weeks about certain spiritual determinants that shape our lives. I believe this is such an important topic for us to understand. If we know the things that direct our lives, we will know how to walk and be successful in our Christian walk. The last time, I touched upon the spiritual determinant of fellowship. I spoke about how the people we surround ourselves with affect the outcome of our lives. Fellowship determines whether we will receive a particular blessing or not. 2nd Corinthians 6:14 says “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”
As Christians we must be conscious of the kind of fellowship we engage in. The Bible considers unbelievers as darkness. As children of light, we must be conscious of the influence of darkness. Do not think that you are too strong of a Christian to be influenced by darkness. There is no such thing. After all, we are told in 1st Corinthians 15:33 that bad company corrupts good morals. So no matter how good of a Christian you are, once you fellowship with unbelievers, they will influence you somehow. Do not settle for “accidental fellowship” or “circumstantial fellowship”. Fellowship that is based on circumstances inhibits your growth as a Christian. Decide to be constantly surrounded by Godly fellowship.
There are certain keys and principles to good fellowship and I would like to share them with you all:
1. Koinonia – 2nd Corinthians 13:14
The first principle of fellowship is koinonia. This is a Greek word that means communion, fellowship, and participation. These things are important to establish great fellowship. We must fellowship with people who contribute to our lives as Christians.
2. Separation – James 4:4
In order to establish fellowship with godly people, we must separate ourselves from bad fellowship. It is difficult to build yourself up in Christ when you are surround by unbelievers and unspiritual Christians. Separation from bad company is key to establishing godly fellowship.
3. Sharing – 1st John 1:1
Sharing is also an important key to fellowship. Be afraid of people who do not share with you. Whether it be about themselves and their lives, or scriptures. Sharing helps develop a flow as you fellowship.
4. Darkness – 1st John 1:6
When your life is in darkness, it is difficult to develop genuine godly relationships.
5. Lies
Lying is a killer of fellowship. When you lie, you are unable to building lasting relationships because everything you share is not based on the truth. Refrain from lying and you will build good godly fellowship.
A few more of the keys and principals for fellowship are : an evil life, iron sharpening iron (Proverbs 27:17), openness and more. For more on this subject, visit the latest media section of www.daghewardmill.org to listen to the message.
Blessings!
